Writing Goals 2010
December 29th 2009 12:51
Last night I made up a list of writing related things that I want to get done in 2010. I'm pretty sure-but of course you can never predict what will happen for the next year-that these are all attainable goals. Some of them will be more difficult to reach than others, and most of them contribute to my 2010 WriYe goal.
Here's my list:
1. Get through one revision of Phoenix Falling and most of the way through a second one-I would like to start submitting to publishers and agents before my eighteenth birthday
2. Do a 1 Week workshop on this blog every month; of course during November I won't really be workshopping, I'll be encouraging, but close enough
3. Write 1, 000, 000 words of fiction and/or creative non-fiction
4. Write one letter to Daddy every 2 months
5. Write 350, 000 for Nano
6. Write 4 Jihad books-this is going to be the most intense one. There will be a lot of time consuming world building to get through and a lot of planning and such. It will be divided into monthly mini-goals.
7. Build a new world and start a new book/series in that world-I really need something to take my mind off of Jihad. I want to start something new!!
8. Write&edit 10 short stories-most of these will probably be myths for Tamraq, and hopefully one or two short stories that are not myths.
9. Submit one poem each month-to different ezines and magazines and such... with any luck I'll get one or two publications this year
10. Blog Regularly-I want to blog almost every day. I'm cutting back my expectations to 6 days a week, with Sundays off. Hopefully this will give me a little bit more time to work on other writing projects.
11. Double blog readership and increase reader participation-a fair number of people already read this blog, but I want to increase the number of readers. Why? Well, partially because I want more people to see my work and know my name, but mostly because I want to help more writers. And those who I can't help, I want to show a different perspective on the writing process. I also want to increase reader participation, and I think the workshops are going to be a big part of that.
12. Find a writing partner-I'm looking for someone who will read and critique my work, and who in return will send me their work for critique. I'm looking for someone who loves to write, who will kick my butt into gear, and who I can bounce ideas off of. Preferrably someone who would also like to help with the workshops, as they're going to be a lot of work.
13. Spend more time writing-I need to learn some better time management skills. I need to try out different methods of time management, I need to experiment, and I need to get more stuff done.
Over the next couple of days I will talk about how I'm going to reach my goals next year-and I'll talk about ways in which you can reach your own goals. In the meantime...

Those are great goals. I hope you'll look back on 2010 in a year's time and find that you reached them all.
I haven't listed my writing goals for 2010 yet, but I know that I want to post regularly on Writing Words again. Don't think daily, or even six days a week, will be realistic, so I'm aiming for three times a week.

I probably won't reach all of them, but I like to aim high because even if I don't reach all of my goals I'll get some of the way there.
That's a reasonable goal. Blogging regularly is a lot of fun. It's challenging, it's difficult, and so far I haven't seen nearly as much readership or reader responses as I would like, but it's well worth the effort. You just have to remember that blogging is not easy. You have to be in for the long haul-but that goes for any form of writing.
