Update

January 2nd 2009 03:28
Happy New Year everyone!

I'm just updating with some news on the workshop: we will be having a delayed start and starting on Sunday because I'm out of town and my computer can't get in to the wireless here. Sorry everyone.

It also won't let me log in. Updates when I've figured it out.

Writing Resolutions

December 24th 2008 02:53
We all know about 'New Year's Resolutions', and we all know we don't usually follow them. What are your 'writing resolutions' or goals for the new year? Do you want to find a publisher? Do you want to enter such and such contest? Do you want to write X number of words, or books?

Here are some writing sites to support you throughout the coming year, with all of your writing endeavors:

~My workshop, Really Long Link which is six weeks of planning and six weeks of writing, starting January first.

~Janowrimo, one of the many Nanowrimo offshoots, Really Long Link is next month.

~April Fool's Really Long Link is a similar writing site to Jano and Nano.

~JulNo can be found here: Really Long Link which is great for all us northern hemisphere folks.

~AugNo is one I did this past year and is tons of fun, Really Long Link again great for us northern hemisphere folks.

~SeptNo is a livejournal community to do a Nanowrimo in September Really Long Link

~ShoStoWriMo is like Nano, but here the goal is to write 15, 000 words in short stories. Really Long Link It's a livejournal community once more.

~Forward Motion, where you can sign up for the 2YN-two year novel course-and where I am known as Litharukia: http://fmwriters.com/

~And of course Wriye, Really Long Link which has an amazing community; I'm Litharukia there as well. Come join us!

Another site, DreamWriters, which I am a moderator for, is undergoing some massive changes in terms of the mod team as well as the site itself. More news on that once we've got everything figured out.

I've gotten my first volunteer for a one-page critique; thanks to Alex. That post will hopefully go up tomorrow if I survive Christmas dinner number three. His is online as the first chapter, but due to space concerns on the blog itself, I'm only going to critique the first 250 words or so here.

Thanks for reading; happy X-mas or whatever you're celebrating, good luck if you're not celebrating and are getting dragged into dinners like I am, and good luck with your writing-and trying to write at this time of year!

So I'm completely and utterly burnt out thanks to Nanowrimo followed by getting back to school followed by the endless week of Christmas. I've got the workshop 95% finished, and since it's almost the new year, here are my writing goals for the year:

~Start posting here again. (This is copy pasted from my livejournal, which is private)
~Participate in ShoStoMo, which happens to be an LJ community.
~Write and Lulu!Publish another anthology
~Write 1, 000, 000 words for WriYe. (Or, for humor value, 1, 000, 001.)
~Write 400, 000 of that in Nano.
~Blog consistently at my other blog.(That would be this one.)
~Participate in my own workshop at Really Long Link
~Participate in the 2YN over at Forward Motion
~Participate in AugNo
~And do my own Nano in April as well.
~Write smut-on-request (one pending request I keep procrastinating/failing at and potentially others)
~Write a few HP fics
~Finish the Jihad series and the Elf's Shadow which were both started during Nano this year.
~Become an active member of CC again.

I'm looking for some volunteers to help with a few things here and there, so here are my requests:

~I want to critique a couple first pages and use them to show what a good beginning looks like. Genres I'm accepting are fantasy and horror. I want a full page of 250 words (manuscript format) which is available online so I can link back to it.

The advantage to this for you is that you get a critique-and I'll go into as much detail as I can-and that people get to see who you are. This blog isn't huge but it's getting there. The advantage for me and my readers is that it provides an example of a good beginning.

Please email me at diannalgunn@gmail.com with a link to the online page where your first book page is. This will not threaten your chances at publication in the least. I will critique the first pages of up to six volunteers. I may also offer to do a private critique of the first three chapters.

~I'm still looking for a couple writers of non-fantasy fiction to help me out with a couple planning exercises that are non-genre specific. I need six of these.

~I am also looking for someone who will help me with my pitch for my Nano '06, as I'm horrible at pitches.

Anyone who volunteers will get linkage to their blog in an appreciation post either at the beginning of January or the end of the month. If you are interested in volunteering, please send me an email at diannalgunn@gmail.com with whatever you are interested in doing.

Thanks to everyone who's been reading. I'm really loving my experience blogging here at Orble, especially the last month or two. I'm looking forward to continuing to blog here throughout the next year.

A call for help

December 9th 2008 20:56
So I realized today that my writing exercises for the workshop are largely applicable to fantasy, and not so much to other genres. (I've never written any other genre, not my fault!) So I'm going to ask for a couple people to step up to the plate and write a few exercises for the following genres:

-Horror

Possible Hiatus

December 3rd 2008 13:52
Because of my wrist-which I'm getting X-rayed today to see what's wrong with it-and the fact that soon I will be swamped with homework (I just missed a month of school), I may not be able to post for the next week or two. I will try to keep posting as regularly as possible, but it will likely slow down.

Thanks for your time and consideration. I want to say thanks to everyone who reads this-and especially everyone who comments

Pre-Nano Work: Characters

October 10th 2008 22:20
This is a writing exercise to learn more about your character and keep an on-file idea of who they are, which is basically like a profile.

Pre-Nano Work: Brainstorm

October 10th 2008 00:41
I'm back to talking about Nanowrimo today. It's only a couple more weeks away, after all. For those of you who don't have an idea yet, who are so far flying by the seat of your pants and would like a bit of a plan, I hope this is the right place. I'm going to be doing a lot of my pre-Nano work over the next three weeks and I've decided to share some of it.

I want you to answer the following questions
