Time For The Soul

September 13th 2009 00:51
I love writing. I really and truly love writing-and anyone who reads this blog regularly knows that. Writing is my passion, my life, my dream career. Well, with any career, no matter how much you love it, it eventually does feel like work. What does that mean? That means it's time to take a break, recharge the batteries in your soul, and then keep at it.

Today was that time for me. It's time to recharge, what with school starting and the hectic month that was my August. School started on Tuesday for most people, but the school that I just got into told me to go back Monday, so I get an extra couple days off. Which is always nice.

My grandmother took me and my cousin to the Toronto Islands today. We had a picnic on the beach, walked along the island, went to a terrible restaurant, left, swore never to go back there again, went on some rides at the amusement park there and then got on a ferry and made the long journey home.

It was a great day. I kept meaning, all summer, to spend some proper, quality time with my cousin-I love him, and he loves me too; we've got a strong bond that I hope we never lose-but things kept coming up. There was always something for me to be doing, a party to go to, a party to recover from, a book to be writing, what-have-you. I wanted to go to the islands with him, although I rarely go there by myself, because I know it's a wonderful place when you're little.

Well, we went and I had an amazing time. I'm recharged, and once I've had a good night's sleep, I can spend the whole day tomorrow-a FREE day with nothing to do, except pick something of mine up from a friend who fixed it-writing and preparing for school. Some of my time might go into laundry, but all that means is carrying it upstairs and then back downstairs.

I'm glad I got this opportunity to spend time with my cousin and my grandmother-both wonderful people-and recharge my soul. The island is beautiful, the lake is beautiful-although filthy-and it was a great day. I'm glad it's over but I wouldn't trade that day for any other.

What do you do to recharge your soul?
