Simple Editing Exercise and Update
March 25th 2010 12:04
Sorry I didn't post yesterday. I've been really tired this week. My editing is coming along slowly but nicely, my words for the year are 84K plus change, far behind where I wanted to be but still better than last year at this time.
Today I've got a simple exercise for you to do:
Pick a character who you feel is underdeveloped in your novel, whose personality doesn't show through very well or who you would like to get to know better. This should be an important character but not a main character. Ask yourself why they are underdeveloped-do they not get enough story time, do you not know them well enough, have you done enough work to make them well rounded characters?
If this character doesn't have a character profile, make them one using the [Extended Character Profile] template. If they do have a character profile, then take two scenes which they are part of and write those scenes from their point of view. Get into their head. Maybe even consider making one of these the actual scene in your novel so that your readers get further into this character's head too.

Thanks
I'm ready to become a seriously published author, but I'd like to stall a bit... I'd rather spend this time writing what I love, and writing for love, before it becomes a career. I like being able to work at my own pace, not to a strict deadline from an editor, for the time being. A couple short stories might get published in the near future, but my books are mine to work on however quickly or slowly I like for now.

Alas, all the characters in my novel are underdeveloped. Most have yet to be born.
I need some of your energy

Sadly, I think I need all of my energy at the moment. I've been having troubles sleeping, you see.
That said, perhaps you should seek energy in Nanoland. I find that come November we're a very energetic bunch, all over the forums, and great novels have been born in Nanoland.
