To Inspire
August 10th 2007 03:08
I've been thinking. It's Thursday here (barely) and I'm supposed to post something inspirational for long fiction works.
What can I say about inspiration? It isn't something I can just give you. Inspiration comes or it doesn't, and all I can do is try to inspire you. Which doesn't always work. Your muse is your own, and while mine responds to certain things, yours might not.
For today I'm going to give you a prompt. I know that many writers don't do well with prompts, but it's something I'm good at. I accept that I won't be able to inspire everyone. I wish I could. But for now, I'll just do my best.
Soon I'll be posting writers' success stories and other such pieces that I can only hope you'll enjoy.
Tonight's prompt: (it's 11PM here)
A girl is standing on a very gray beach in black mourning clothes. She is looking out into the ocean and crying. Someone comes up behind her and puts his arms around her; she turns, kicks him in the nuts, and then realizes it's her boyfriend.
"Oh crap."
That's your starting scene.
And for those of you in the midst of a work, I dare you to write a chapter of it starting *now*.
