Prompt of the Week

Today's Prompt Is:
Sunrise
My Response:
The sun is beautiful when seen from the right angle; rising over water is perhaps its most glorious moment, when all the world turns a strange pinkish colour and the water fades into the sky. I'm lucky to live in a place where I can see the sun rise over a beautiful lake each and every day. I might miss three hundred out of every three hundred and sixty five sunrises, but that doesn't make the sixty five that I do catch any less beautiful-it makes them perhaps more special.
In the quiet moments at the very start of the day, life is at its most beautiful and inspiration is at its finest. Who wouldn't be inspired by a picture such as this, where the sun rises over the trees? Who is not inspired by the planet's natural life all around them? Surely not I, for I find the best moments of inspiration come when I am alone with nature.
In today's life most of us spend the majority of our time inside, or at least in the depths of various cities, surrounded by the toxins from cars and overpopulation. We don't wake up to the sound of birds in the morning-indeed, we're lucky if we hear a single one. We don't walk through a forest to get to our friends' houses. We spend our time holed up inside, holed up in the city, away from nature and its inspiration.
Many people all over the world are starting to realize our mistakes. People are being called back to nature, one by one. We've fallen out of sync with our planet, with our only home, and we need to get back in sync-not only for the planet's well being but for ours as well. Most of us who live in cities have forgotten the inspiration and inner peace that a few hours alone with nature can give us. As writers we need to realize that in nature's furthest reaches the best stories are to be found, and we need to give ourselves time with the depths of that nature.
The sun is rising; can you hear the birds?
Your turn.

I like your essay a lot. If allowed, I would spend much more time outside that I do. I too, find a tremendous amount of inspiration in nature (and sciences and math). Much of my other visual art uses nature as subject - flowers in particular. There is such infinite variety and interest in just sitting and looking and observing.
Hope you enjoy the Elgin piece. I laughed out loud when I saw the subject for the FF. Sunrise is *such* a topic for vampires. It's - um - educational for me to observe myself work through these on a weekly basis. I try to pay attention to "how I solve the problem". Some are easy. Some are hard. The process I use to get to the end state varies. This one was cobbled together like a quilt ... a few riffs and then heavy editing. And I had to delete a sentence that I had grown fond of ... sniff ... I always find that sad.
Hope you are well!
Cheers!
