Prompt of the Week: Losing You

Losing You
I feel like I'm losing you
the same way I lost all the others;
why do you feel
that the needle makes you better?
You're poisoning yourself
and asking me to watch
asking me to smile
telling me it'll only be
just a little while.
I've lost perhaps a dozen
to this evil thing
and I know I'll lose a dozen more
to the monster that is ketamine.
Your loss shocked me
but it's really no surprise;
I wish that I could save you
with the tears behind my eyes.
And I wish I'd never let you
wander that dark path
I wish that I had stopped you
now I know I can't.
I'm losing you
to the needle
though I barely knew you;
but remember that it's not just me losing you
you're losing yourself too.
Your Turn

Usual spot
Back using Elgin's voice.
This week had another observation about approach. I jotted down a one line "angle" ... sort of a theme and then used that to devise the story.
For the record and interest's sake, this one was "how can you lose something you don't actually have"?
It is a very reporter-y way of solving the 500-word challenge. Or ... maybe in my case it's not reporter-y but more classic problem-solving wherein Step One is always "State the Problem". This is a moderately alarming revelation ... I have mixed up / blended / forced my creative process to mirror my scientific processes. Then again ... in my mind ... I can't really "solve" what I don't really know.
Funny.
Hope you enjoy it ...
Cheers!

Fictional Worlds
That's an excellent piece, mirroring the one you wrote last week. I enjoy taking moments in a story line and looking at them from multiple perspectives. I really enjoy both of the voices that I've seen in the last couple of weeks and look forward to more.
I also love all the layers-you can look at it purely from a romantic point of view, or you can get into the whole vampire thing and the ethics around that. A lot of deep meaning could be read into this piece and most of the others.
It's only logical that your creative process and creative thinking would be similar to the scientific thinking that you do all the time. Your creative process depends entirely on how your brain works-whether that be systematically organized or somewhat scattered.
I'm tired, drained, ready to go, and going tomorrow. Can't wait to spend some time out of the city.
