Picking A Plot And Character Brainstorming
October 25th 2009 14:32
Brainstorm pros/cons of each plot you've been looking at, and pick the one least challenging to plan and write, or the one that is most interesting to you. (Often these will not be the same.) Contemplate the following questions:
~What subplots can easily add to/work well with this plot?
~What personality traits is a character in this kind of plot likely to have?
~What would you like to see done differently than it has been done in books with similar plots?
Brainstorm things you can use alongside your plot; subplots will be your saviour come November.
Character Brainstorm
Ask yourself the following:
~What about this world would make the average person different from people in our world? (I. E. is magic common, what benefits does it give the common people, stuff like that)
~What kind of character would you enjoy writing in the point of view of?
~What kind of character would you enjoy writing about, although not necessarily in their PoV?
~Would you prefer to write from a male or female PoV?
Today instead of a prompt I suggest you do a freewrite. In this freewrite, don't set yourself any expectations except to write it in first person from someone else's perspective. Write 700 words-and then read it carefully. Notice the way the person whose perspective this piece is written from describes things. Try and find out who that person is-this is going to be your main character.
