Organization Workshop-Intro
January 18th 2010 12:59
Those of us whose noveling efforts were particularly disastrous will need to organize our stories before we begin the editing process. Even if you've got a well organized novel, you'll still want an idea of where you're going with your edits.
Over the course of this workshop you will figure out what your story looks like right now, what you want it to look like, and what you want to accomplish. You will also get an idea of how you want to edit. You will evaluate the novel's strengths and also its weaknesses.
The amount of time it takes you to complete this workshop may be two or even three weeks. All exercises will be posted over the course of this week, and of course you can revisit them any time you like.
This is the first of a series of workshops related to editing. Next month there will be a similar workshop focusing on characterization. In March, traditionally NaNoEdMo, we will be doing a month long editing workshop.
As always, comments and questions are welcome. You can email me at diannalgunn@gmail.com. To prepare for this workshop, I suggest you start reading your Nanovel-or other novel that you wish to edit-today. On this read through you don't want to be editing. Put a star beside anything you don't like so that you know what to focus on where you are editing, but right now you're reading for storyline and characterization, as well as consistency.
Also please take a few minutes to complete this survey (clicky) about what you would like to see here at Fictional Worlds over the coming year.
