Life and Writing
April 8th 2010 12:01
As a writer, you're probably always struggling to make time for your writing. I know I am. It's nearly impossible to balance family, friends, school or work, and writing.
At the beginning of this year, my focus was largely on school, reaching the end of the first semester of the year. For most of March my focus was mainly on writing and on my blog. But focusing on one area of my life entirely can be incredibly detrimental to other areas of that life, and my grades have started to fall.
I know that as time passes, my studies will grow more intense. I will have to spend more time on homework, and eventually I'll have to spend time at an actual job as well. Balance must become my focus.
I'd like to invite you on a journey with me. In the coming months, I'm going to strive for a balance between friends, family, school, and writing. The Dear Diary workshop I'm planning next month will be an attempt to spend at least half an hour writing every day. In June I'll be doing a reading workshop, to help make reading a regular habit. In July I'll be doing a full workshop on improving productivity.
Come with me on my journey as I try to find a proper balance between friends, family, school, and writing. On this blog over the coming months I will share with you my experiments in time management and my search for inspiration. I hope that these experiments will inspire you to strive for balance in your own life.
For those of you who have found a pretty good balance between the rest of your life and your creative endeavours, I'd love to hear what worked for you. I'm always looking for tips and tricks to experiment with.
