Eternia Falling: Week One
August 6th 2009 03:16
So this is officially my first week into Eternia falling. So far I'm at 15K. I'm frustrated with it already, though I know I'll keep going and get through the story. It's not the story that's the problem. Once I get through this week in story time, everything will become easier, I'll be speeding up the story and once more in familiar territory.
Right now however I've spent 14K writing about two days. To be fair, a couple thousand of those were from another point of view, Naomi/Riana's, and quite a bit was spent extensively describing the dragon and certain parts of the castle. But I'm not sure how I feel about it.
I can really see that the prologue and first couple pages of the first chapter are great. I'm finding myself doing unintentional rambling though, which I don't usually do too badly, even during Nanowrimo. It's frustrating and I just don't know what to do about it.
Eternia Falling is a very dark, dark story. It involves quite a bit of unpleasantness, abuse, various things. Betrayal, dark secrets, you know, all those good things. I know that once I'm past this week-when she first meets her husband-to-be-I'll be able to get properly into the despair and darkness, and hopefully once I'm through this rough patch the writing will become easier.
I know that a good chunk of the last two chapters I've written, in fact probably all of them, will be deleted. Why? Because they're badly written. I wasn't sure how to go about writing certain scenes between Eternia and her husband-to-be so I threw in some weird trance dream thing, which is pretty cool. I'm torn as far as that part is concerned. Can't make up my mind...
Hopefully I'll get past this without too much trouble. Going to push myself to 16K tonight, another thousand words or so, and then go to bed. I've finished reading the Screwtape letters so tomorrow you can expect a book review. Tomorrow I will also be starting in on the next in my set of myths. Yay. I'm way too tired today from various stress factors to really get too much done, but hopefully I'll be able to start building that weird race for Jihad on Friday or Saturday...
I hope you guys are having an easier time of it than I am.
