Dear Diary 14

February 20th 2009 23:39
Dear Diary,
He woke up and walked out of my room. I didn't say anything, just closed my eyes, stretched and yawned; a moment later he was back, and our lips met for a kiss. It was a simple kiss, the one that we exchanged each morning as our way of saying hello to each other.

I had been with Elric for ten years; the Great Alliance was at its strongest. We teleported to Phoenix and walked the streets, the golden streets lined with devout followers who gave even Elric the proper respect. We had a festival in the capitol that night, and off we went.

It was amazing. The people were thriving and alive, their faith was strong; I showed my face often and knew many of the mortals on a superficial basis. Elric was always at my side, the big strong man escorting Lady Death.

As soon as we were back in my mansion we laid back down in each other's arms, kisses going back and forth. I loved him, I loved his body, I loved all that he could do for me. I loved each moment we spent together.

The next morning we had a drink with Dracon, just talking and talking for hours. Talyn passed through and talked to us for a few moments. He really is a handsome young lad, and Loki is simply gorgeous. I thought so even then, though I would never say a word.

Loki and I had tea that afternoon, without Elric; he never grew fond of Elric, and I suppose that is why later he proved to have more strength than all the rest of us. Elric went out with Dracon and celebrated. Loki and I just talked about the things happening in the world below us.

Those days were peaceful; the Golden Age of the Great Alliance. Times that I miss dearly. Times which few of those still alive remember. Only some people in the capitol have survived into this war, the dear old king being one of them. He will retire soon, leaving his son who has known war all his life to rule.

I must visit with the old king soon; he still holds faith with me, as do his sons and daughters. The royal family will never abandon any of the Gods, or they will be dethroned. This is the condition for their place.

I will meet with them soon and discuss the situation. I can see it, I have spoken in the council about it, but I want to meet with the royal family. And Loki will come with me; Loki often comes with me and speaks to them. They are on incredibly good terms for him, which is unusual for a royal family; they have been good for our country.

I want to bring back education. We cannot let it fall completely apart because of this war. I am going to discuss educating the public, at least in the capitol. Basic reading and writing for everyone, and basic mythology. We don't want people to be mindless slaves; we care deeply for our people.

I do wish that there was more I could do, but I think that bringing back education for the people who are very young at this time, the poor children who are on our streets, would be a life saver. Giving them a meal and two lessons each day would relieve parents and children alike. It would be much better for all of the orphans.

The Triad opened up another orphanage three weeks ago in the capitol; it's a nice place, and it's going to be full pretty soon. I hear that they've already got a fourth of the beds filled and the place just opened up, the third one in the capitol. It's getting to be pretty scary, how many orphans are walking the streets these days. I feel so bad for all of them; for the position they are stuck in.

There are barely enough priests and priestesses to run the orphanage though, so they're training quite a few more. Being a priest or priestess is now one of the few ways not to get drafted and to have steady work and food. We may not have all powerful magics, but the royal family, the priests, the priestesses, and the orphans in the care of the Gods will not starve under our watch.

I am getting worried, however. It would seem that the borders are weakening. There may be a full scale invasion attempt. We must be ready, and I must speak with the royal family about this. I cannot allow my country to be taken. The capitol at the very least must be saved, the last refuge of our people.

I am praying for my people, and I know that Bannon and Loki are out there fighting beside our people; I know Raychel is on the battlefield healing almost dead soldiers. And I can hear the Drakor in my mansion giving their blessings to the spirits she cannot save.

Talyn is feeding people right now; I know he went to the house of some starving people and brought with him a feast. He will leave them and their neighbors with food to last them a week. We give them what we can.

Tomorrow night I will visit the royal family and give them a feast like the youngest prince has never had. There will be food like there hasn't been in thirty years. It will be amazing; and we will send some of the feast to the new orphanage.

I am tired now... slipping away into dreams, praying they will not be more of the same nightmares.
