January 21st 2010 12:34
Today you're going to be asking yourself some questions about your own personal strengths and weaknesses. But first I wanted to mention that I found a really interesting blog post (clicky) talking about good books to read about writing. An interesting post and an interesting blog.
Answer the following:
~What is your favourite thing about your novel and why? (This is not a scene but a character or a stylistic choice. It could also be an overall tone or new plot direction.)
~What aspect of storytelling do you think you're best at?
~What aspect of storytelling do you think you're worst at? What can you do to improve your skills in this arena?
~Does your novel clearly show its theme?
~Are there any subplots you think would add to the depth of your novel?
~Are there any subplots you think need to go?
~Does the reader get a clear sense of who all the important characters are?
~Are there better ways of portraying character than the ones you've used? List ideas of how to show who your characters are.
~What is your favourite scene and why?
~What is your least favourite scene and why?
Tomorrow you're going to be creating an outline for your current draft.
