Day One: Reread
January 19th 2010 12:29
Today read as much of your book as you possibly can find time for. Don't correct anything. You can print out your novel for this, but I think it's a waste of time, paper, and ink.
Don't correct anything. If something bothers you, mark it off with an asterisk or put a star in the margin and keep reading.
I'm in the process of doing this myself (I'm working through this workshop on Phoenix Falling) and I've printed out the first five chapters. At the end of each chapter, on the back of the page on which the chapter ends, I've written a few notes about the overall chapter and story so far. It's really helping me know what I need to focus my edits on, so I know that this process is worth it.
Once you finish reading your novel, summarize it in no more than 200 words. Name your main character, your antagonist, and any love interests. Most importantly mention what the main conflict is and why it started.
Also, please take a minute to do this survey (clicky) and tell me what you like, what you dislike, and what you hope to see here at Fictional Worlds.
