Building Gods Part Two
This part of the exercise is longer than the last. Here we will go into moderate detail about the history of your Gods.
First, build them a basic profile. While building this basic profile, decide if they appear to their people and if so how often. Also decide how they get along with the other Gods and Goddesses in your world (unless this is a monotheistic culture).
If your Gods can and do appear in multiple forms, for the appearance pick the form you most commonly picture them in, the form that they appear to their followers in most often.
Essentially whay you are building is a three-page profile for the God you are working on. I usually build one of these for each God in the world I'm working on and similar profiles for important characters.
The second page is going to be about how this God gets along with others. The heading for this page should be "'Insert God's Name here' in Relation To Other Gods". (Ex. Dracon and Other Gods.) In a page (or two) summarize their relationships with Gods over the past 500-1,000 years before the story you plan on writing begins.
Some things to think about:
~Your God or Goddess most likely won't get along with every other God or Goddess all the time unless they're pretending to be something they aren't. The fights may not be major-but consider why Gods might argue. They might argue because of differences in how they treat their followers or what they believe in. When they argue, if it becomes major, what effects could this have on your culture and its mythology?
~Does this God interact with Gods and Goddesses from other belief systems, if they are also real?
If you have one God/dess, write a page about a creature that is mythically connected to your God/dess and how/why they are related. It can either be a real-world animal, a mythical being commonly seen in stories of our world, or your own creation entirely. You can also write a page about their influence on a war that happened less than 1,000 years before your story.
Now write a page or two about this God in mythology. Make sure you include important changes in myth over the years, and mention a common couple methods of worship.
Voila-one mostly-formed God, sufficient for any book you may need to write involving them. Repeat with as many as you like.
Today's Prompt:
War-500 words.
