Blogging Commitments and Terry Pratchett
February 2nd 2010 12:35
I've decided that I'm going to cut back my goal blogging frequency to 5 posts a week, Monday-Friday. This is in an attempt to reduce the pain in my wrist so that I can work on other things more.
I love writing. I love this blog. I love a lot of the things that I've written here, a lot of the things that I've said. I love reaching out to other writers. But in the end, the writing I love the most is my fiction writing, and if I have to cut back on my blogging to be able to do so comfortably, so be it.
Even writing five posts a week, if I can do it every week, is an improvement in consistency from last year. This year I'm determined to improve the quality of my blog, improve my consistency as a blogger, and to increase my readership.
I'd also like to make a brief mention of a speech that Terry Pratchett gave, My Case for a Euthanasia Tribunal (clicky). Terry Pratchett, author of the fantasy parody series Discworld, was diagnosed with a rare form of Alzheimers a few years ago. (I'm not sure exactly when.) Here he talks about assisted death or suicide-helping someone with a terminal disease go quickly.
Terry Pratchett makes a wonderful case, and as far as this issue is concerned, I think he's found a great way to compromise between protecting the vulnerable and allowing people the right to choose. I really think that people should be able to choose whether they live or die-it's the freedom of life. And here Terry Pratchett asks for that right, and he does it in a beautiful way.
