The Beginning Of The End...

December 3rd 2007 07:36
No, the title doesn't really have to do with much of anything. This is going to be my Blogging 101 series, the first post of it. I'm sleepless, out of sheer willpower, not the inability to sleep (I'm waiting for my second wind here... HINT WORLD), so here I am, typing away.

I started this blog a couple months ago. And let me tell you, this blog is part of what is, for me, a beacon of hope. I'm really starting to work towards my single most difficult goal: to be able to survive solely off of my writing by the time I hit eighteen, or at least my arts. I'm into arts other than writing, but writing is my biggest passion in life.

Not that I'm expecting to make millions of dollars from this blog; on the contrary, in four years, I'm expecting, say, ten dollars a month. But what this blog CAN do for me is give me a name, make me well known. I can gain reputation through this blog. Perhaps that's its biggest draw for me; the reason I came back after my difficulties and forced hiatus is because of the awesome community here, which I'm hoping will welcome me back.

The first thing you need when it comes to blogging is determination... determination to write your best, to post frequently, and to enjoy yourself. A blog isn't a one time project, or even a project you give up on after a short while-at least, not a successful blog.

Like anything else to do with the arts, you're not going to instantly attract huge crowds; there's plenty of talent out there and several bloggers who enjoy themselves posting. Guess what? You need to find a way to stand out in the crowd; at the beginning, you're just a newbie, someone with potential. Nobody special, really, considering the millions of new blogs every day.

Only through usefulness of your blog and continued effort can you ever make it in the blogging world. Really, what you need is the determination to post regularly, and never give up on your blog. I know I'm not planning on giving up on mine anytime soon. I joined this site with the idea of getting my art out there, having it appreciated. Money was partially on my mind, but in the end, it's just a perk of the true job of a blog, or at least the true job in my mind-to get the word out and to enjoy oneself.

If your only reason for blogging is money, you're bound to get discouraged-the best reasons are personal. The best reasons are for fun, to get your words out there, to take on a challenge, but never, ever, ever for fame and fortune. You want fame and fortune? Prepare for about two decades of suffering. Two decades of trying to build yourself up, working and working at your writing.

Guess what? Fame and fortune isn't coming any sooner unless you're some kind of miracle.

I think that's it for today... tomorrow I'll probably update with how my own writing is going. The next blogging post will be all about quality or something along those lines...

Dianna, this should be a most interesting thread, especially for new and younger writers.

You are certainly right that persistence is key to blogging. I started my blog 11 months ago, and it's become a prominent feature of my morning routine. Mind you, there are times when the blog feels like a huge weight to carry, but I've found after 2-3 days off, I'm right back at it.

I admire your ambition to support yourself with your writing and art, especially at your early age. GOOD LUCK.

Good luck...I have so many of the same sentiments...it is hard to keep at it when you don't see results but the bottom line is You just wont - not immediately and not unless you chip away...You have the right attitude - I agree 100% with you.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the comments. I'm glad to see somebody's reading my blog after the hiatus?

This started out as a rant about how much it sucks to have to rebuild my blog from the ground up. And turned into a bit of a motivational post, and a bit of a post about my dreams.

I'm really hoping things work out.

Thanks,
~Dianna
