AugNoWriMo

August 3rd 2009 13:04
So. It's officially August. In fact, it's Agust third. I spent the first two days of August partying, so I haven't gotten any of my planned writing done, really. Well, I got nothing done yesterday or Saturday. So far for the day I've written 3, 331 words.

I'm planning on getting that word count up to 10, 000 by the end of the night, at which point I will be fully caught up for the last couple of days. My end goal for the month is 10, 000.

My novel this month is titled Eternia Falling. Eternia is a character who is deeply involved with Riana's past-Riana being the main character of Moonshadow's Guardian. As such, I can't give away too many details of the story because it's a huge spoiler for MG. MG is going to be published first, when I get around to it, although Eternia Falling takes place 10, 000 years earlier.

Here's the first scene in my book:

It was a cold, stormy night outside the castle. Through the fog the pain of giving birth created in my vision I could see whirling snowstorms outside the magic window. The pain was excruciating; the cramping and uncramping in my lower stomach unbearable.

Torment. That is what birth is. I thought to myself, clenching onto the prayer beads with all my might, praying they would not break. I could feel the midwife putting various herbs on my stomach; these would keep the stretch marks at bay and make the ache fade sooner. I could hear various women scrambling about, but my eyes could not leave the window.

With one last excruciating push, I felt the baby leave my stomach. I heard its cries in the
midwife's arms. I could hear her voice, and in it I could hear that she was smiling, as she congratulated me on a beautiful baby boy. Someone put a cup to my lips, and I drank gratefully; I could taste the magic. This would put me to sleep-and as I slept it would heal the aches in my body from carrying that baby.

“What do you wish to name her?” she asked; this must mean my husband had returned to the room.

“Her name shall be Eternia,” he said, “Eternia Dragonfell.”

My eyes closed; the wind rose and howled outside... and my consciousness swam into the darkness, at long last able to sleep.

This is the birth of Eternia, written from the perspective of the mother. This takes place during the prologue. I rather like this scene, and decided Dragonfell is a good name for a royal family-what do you think?

I will be making another post later in the day, not sure just yet what it's going to be about but it will be made. First, though, I'm going to wander around online for a while; giving myself a break from writing for the moment.

Anyone else participating in Augnowrimo? If so, have you started yet? If you have, what's your word count looking like so far? Comment to let me know.
