Help Zette!

November 5th 2008 20:09
This is an update on the little fundraiser we have going on for Zette. (Who, by the way, is a Nanowriter; you can find her free Nano-advice novel in eBook format on the Reaching 50,000! forum. It's a wonderful little book.)

Really Long Link

She now has a thank you note up, and it looks like some progress is being made. I think some new things are up, and the support will be until December 31st-great Christmas presents for any writers you know, and a great way to help her out.

Zette is a good person, and the stereotypical struggling writer. Help her out, do your part, and maybe we can get her out of her struggles.

Thanks to all who have donated and who are planning on doing so.

Writing To Raise Awareness

October 28th 2008 09:54
For the last couple of days, I've been thinking of awareness. Specifically to do with depression and self harm. I want to reveal to people what they don't see, what they don't realize unless they care enough to really look.

I want to show the world exactly why people like me do what we do, and what better way than to do that through writing?

Most of my poetry is depression-centered, as it plays a large part of my life, and has for some time now. But is it really getting the point across?

Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people; suicide, depression, and self harm are becoming bigger and bigger issues. Why is that? Well, partially because life is changing, and not necessarily for the better. Sure, we have all sorts of modern convenience-but life isn't about that. Life is really, or at least should really be about your own well being and good, strong relationships with the people you care about.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that there is so much darkness in the world, and so many people in such strong emotional pain, and a lot of people just automatically look away. And that hurts, that hurts more than anything else; knowing that everyone else around you is too afraid to even acknowledge what you're going through.

We all suffer. Some of us take it harder than others, and for some of us it's a thousand times worse.

And when we suffer, when we fall into that depression, we lose a lot; our self-worth, our friends, our families drift away, sometimes we lose jobs, motivation, everything. You may not think you have a lot to lose, but mark my words, once you start losing things, you'll know just how much you really had.

I think it's about time someone actually spoke up. I'm seriously thinking about writing up an eBook focused on the issues of self harm, suicide, and depression, with poetry along with my own personal story. I just want to know if anyone is interested in it, because it's not going to be easy to write. And I can't struggle for nothing; I just can't.

So please, if you would read that, let me know. And I suggest you do some research yourself-and maybe write something of your own.

Because people not understanding hurts almost more than depression itself.

Help Zette!

October 28th 2008 07:17
Zette is the owner of the writing website Forward Motion. She's a great person and a good writer; having talked to her on the Nanowrimo site, and looked into her free Nano-centric book, I feel I can attest to this.

Well, she insists on keeping FM free, which is admirable, and handling all the costs herself. Meanwhile, her house is falling apart. So the writer Holly Lisle (who ran FM before, and who I've mentioned before) has started a fundraiser of sorts for her, to be found if you click on the button below:

Please help Zette out, as she is an amazing woman and winter is coming. I would if I could, but I can't, so I figure the least I could do is pass on the message.

Thank you,
~Dianna

Fundraisers For Nano

October 25th 2008 17:25
Anyone who's been a long-term reader of this blog is already well aware of my goal for this November, but I'm going to go over that along with a few ways to raise money (without spending any) for Nano.

My thing: This year I'm planning on writing 250, 000 words during the month of November. I will blog at least twice a week, even if only with progress updates. If I achieve this goal, I want a few people to donate to Nanowrimo in my name, because I can't-similar to sponsorship. My goal is to raise at least $25.00, one dollar for every ten thousand words

Only Writers Can Understand Writers...

October 25th 2008 16:57
I have many, many different circles in which I travel. About seven different groups in which I hang out on a regular basis, and even more who I talk to online. And I have to say, my favourites are my writer friends.

Why? Because if I tell them I can't make it to something because I'm too busy writing, they understand. When I talk about my binder full of notes on different stories and worlds, they understand. When I talk about my love for words, they get it

Habit Forming

October 18th 2008 20:15
I was surfing the Nano forums today, like I do every day (every few hours, actually... ahem... I am not obsessed), and I was reading a thread on how you get yourself to write. Everyone was giving their advice and what works for them, and someone mentioned that they're working really hard on forming the habit of writing every day.

And that made me realize something. I am actually in the habit of writing every day, or at least almost every day. Why is that? It's all thanks to this blog

Take Pride In Your Work (Prompt)

October 4th 2008 23:41
I'm not really sure why I'm writing this. I just felt like... like it had to come out. As a writer, you need to be aware of your faults; you need to look carefully at your work and check every little detail. You need to scan it, proof it, edit it, and sometimes it feels like chopping something you love into pieces and sewing it back up with body parts you don't recognize.

But when you make something good, when you have gone through all of that, it means even more so that you deserve to be proud of it. I know I have some pretty awful entries in here, and a number of mediocre ones; but there are also a few that stand out, that are beautiful. And I am proud of my overall body of work that is this blog

When Everything Is Just Too Much

October 4th 2008 23:28
So let me tell you something. School is stressing me out; I'm trying to force myself to go but it isn't working very well. Things at home aren't pleasant either. I'm stressed; so stressed that I've been sick on and off for two weeks now. Nanowrimo is on the horizon.

It's times like these when anybody-writer or otherwise-starts to wonder about all their obligations and if they're worth it. It's times like these when normally I would abandon the blog for weeks at a time; I'm trying not to. It's sort of working. It's times like these when we just want to throw in the towel

The Writer's Darkness

September 16th 2008 22:03
The part of us that makes us writers is said to make depression more common. Personally I think depression is common everywhere, but more so among writers-especially young writers. Suicide is the third leading cause of death of young people.

I know I have faced the darkness numerous times, and somehow pulled through. I know it isn't easy, and it will never be easy, and I expect the darkness to haunt me until the end of time. This is a burden I will bear for now, until one day it destroys me. And I know that it probably will; I can see that happening. But I'll keep it at bay for now

Words On A Page

June 16th 2008 03:56
Writing: the art of putting COHERENT words on a page... and so much more.

Just because you can perform the act of writing words coherently doesn't make you a true writer. A true writer takes talent and hard work. To be a true writer you have to be determined to write, to want to write, to love writing

Blogging 101: Ten Big Mistakes

February 22nd 2008 16:23
Yeah, I'm low on ideas so here's what I have. Ten big mistakes of blogging, at least five of which I probably committed at least once in my life.

1) Posting once. And then never again. You need to post consistently

Writing Work

January 22nd 2008 21:26
I'm praying right now. Praying that I'll get a big gigantic break in my writing. I'm looking for places to submit one of my short stories to (the one that's been sent around and around) and praying that someday SOMETHING will come along.

Right now I'm also on the lookout for poetry competitions and publishers. I'm looking everywhere and hoping that something soon will come through. Within a couple weeks I should know if one of my pieces is getting published
