Adopt-A-Plot: Nanowrimo Love
July 14th 2008 02:00
Nanowrimo. Yes I do talk about it a lot. Why? Because it is one of the most fun writing challenges I have ever encountered. The challenge itself can be amazginly fun. Fifty thousand words... Encouraging people to reach the finish line, seeing how quickly you can reach it, is so much fun.
And not only that. But there is the most amazing sense of community when it comes to Nanowrimo. Everybody helps everybody else out. We're all friends there, even when we're friends in competition. Even our competition is friendly, and it truly is the most encouraging thing I've ever done.
Maybe that's why I always manage to complete Nanowrimo-and with flying colours (my banner is a celebration of last year's 200 000 words) because first off, it's fun. Second off, the people are great encouragement. Third off, the Toronto Wrimo community usually does a word war with another city... and I have quite the competitive spirit.
This year I'm going for 250, 000 words in the month of November. I was browsing through the Adopt-A-Plot thread, looking for some plots, and I stumbled upon this one:
"First take the Millennium Falcon. Then make it the Millennium Enterprise. It's captain? Stephen Hawking. Give it the ability to go through Stargates and a Transformers robot form. Make sure Captain Stephen Hawking is using a Halo prophet floating chair complete with the hologram. Make sure the ship is a carrier ship for Spice in it's spare time, and give everyone blue eyes, and at some point include a giant sand worm. Deep Thought should be installed on this ship, as shall be Cortana, and Cortana shall spend most of her spare time struggling to teach Deep Thought how to make tea. Master Chief shall be crossed with Scotty, to create a Spartan with a Scottish accent. The main antagonists of the story will be the Borg Flood Zergling Empire.
Include as many Klingon phrases as possible."
If you decide to write this, for Nanowrimo or otherwise, let me know. I'd love to read it. Sadly I can't write sci fi. But I have to say that I dearly love the Adopt-a-Plot threads and I always have.
