A Writer's Workshop: The Details
December 4th 2008 17:26
This is the idea of the workshop I'm currently preparing to go live in January (signups begin in the last weeks of December most likely):
Plenty of people want to write-and plenty of people never finish anything, plenty of people never really follow their dreams. This is a twelve week program in which to plan and write that novel you always dreamed of.
The first six weeks are spent finishing up old projects so that you can focus on your new one without experiencing that gut-wrenching feeling of project guilt and planning your new story and the world it will be in. There will be daily exercises, alternating between character building and world building. There will also be daily prompts to which you will be asked to write 500 words, to practice for the upcoming novel.
The second six weeks are a rush to get through your story-fifteen hundred words a day for six weeks, so about sixty-three thousand words in total, or to finish your novel. There will be daily check in threads and threads in which to post excerpts, twice-weekly pep talk type posts by myself and potentially a couple of my Nanowrimo friends.
This is for getting a first draft out in a decent timeframe, for getting that story you've always wanted to write planned and then revealed to the world on paper. This is to encourage other writers, help each other out, and is most definitely not about criticism.
The timeframe for this is from January first-February fourteenth for the first half, and from February fourteenth until April second-giving a couple extra days to make up for the short month.
There will then be a poll, and if there is enough demand, I will add a third part which will be to edit your novel between May first and June fourteenth.
I'm going to be working extensively on writing up the exercises for the next couple of weeks, and that may eat up a lot of my blogging time. (And my wrist makes life much more difficult.)
So who's interested?
