A Couple of Journaling Links
May 7th 2010 12:57
Here are a couple links related to journaling:
~Journaling Pages is a section of a website about creativity and healing focused on journaling. This includes great prompts for your introspective Dear Diary posts.
~Keeping a Writer's Journal: 21 Ideas to Keep You Writing is an article on Writing World which talks about keeping a writer's journal-it's not necessarily useful while you're doing the Dear Diary project, but it might be interesting if you ever decide to start a journal of your own.
We're through the first week of the Dear Diary workshop now, and soon we will start the second. I'm pretty happy with what I've accomplished so far with my Dear Diary project-are you?

I'm loving what is emerging about this character. Not only is his voice emerging, but also some of the back-story that I was not aware of (but alluded to). I like the opportunity to see his voice under different circumstances ... not every mood gets the same "voice" and yet I hope it feels like it comes from the same person.

I love experimenting with exercises like this partially because I love many different forms of writing-I enjoy writing poetry, short stories, and novels. I don't experiment with genre much, but I do experiment with form and length, and I enjoy that.
I have the same hopes that while every day the mood is a little different, the overall character voice shows through.
I really love the way Elgin works with words-elegant and simple. He's almost a poet, but not quite. It's interesting.
