A Couple Blogs
July 9th 2010 12:44
Today I don't have much for you, just two blogs and some news about my personal life.
I'll start with the links so if you don't care you can ignore my personal b****hfest.
~Stepping Into Fantasy is a blog written by Emily White full of interesting thoughts on the craft. I really enjoy the personality that comes through in the reading, and not only are the posts interesting, but she has a loyal community and the conversations in the comments can be just as interesting.
~Writing Is Cake is a multi author blog full of interesting thoughts and reviews of DVDs and books. I'm only just now looking through their archives, stumbling upon interesting tidbits. Join me in the journey of discovery...
And on to the personal stuff:
I still don't have a family doctor, and I have absolutely no clue where to start looking. I could ask my family-that's the first recommended step-but I don't really want to deal with any of their doctors. I know there's a confidentiality thing and they can't say anything I don't want them to, but I don't trust doctors, and I don't want any boundaries that will make it harder to trust whatever doctor I find.
I've looked online but haven't gotten too far. I've got a list of doctors to call and I should start making calls tomorrow.
My wrist is aching and the writing is slow, but I've got all summer and I'm sure soon things will be back to normal.

Here's the 500 words on "dreams". More Elgin ...
Re drs ... there should be a list online of "doctors accepting patients". Another alternative is to use a walk-in clinic to start the conversation about what is wrong and how to help. Not sure how willing they would be w-out a referral and there should be specialists open to drop-ins around (I got my foot looked at once this way). Another group of useful people are nurses (pretty plugged in). Public Health nurses aren't in the biz of matching patients but if you find a sympathetic one, he/she might be able to give you some local advice.
Take care of your instrument. While the health care community interface may be a pain in t'arse, you always have the option of getting a second opinion. There are good people out there ... sometimes it takes a bit of time.
Rooting for you like crazy to find someone good ...
Cheers!

Fictional Worlds
I really enjoyed reading that. Is this character the woman that Elgin mentions in his diary?
Put in the right story context, a dream like that is great foreshadowing both to the fact that Elgin is a vampire and to what happened to him. I really like it.
I didn't make any of the calls today-didn't wake up in time-but I'm going to on Monday. I do have one clinic I go to on a regular basis for birth control and other related things, so I'm going to give them a call on Monday as well. I'm hoping they'll have some recommendations for me-and at least if they send me to a doctor, I already know that doctor won't have issues with my birth control and related stuff.
Thank you for all of your support.

Yes ... Avis is the "the woman". In my Screnzy screenplay "Bite Me", there was an extended bit about the cereal issue.
Oddly, all this "staying" with Elgin-verse has made me sort of want to edit the screenplay into something readable.
I suspect it is not quite polite to have an attachment to sentences or phrases but from time to time I get one that I am overly fond of. This contains one "a stride that could part a crowd". : ) Makes me smile every time I think of it.
Also - it is interesting practicing the discipline of 500 words. Such a different set of muscles than the Nano ones.
Lastly - it also occurs to me that if I spent (ie HAD) a little more time, some of these could end up polished. (I re-read them and think of tiny adjustments and flaws - two words repeated close together, a better way of saying something ... sigh).
Have a great weekend!
Cheers!

Maybe it's a sign that you should edit the screenplay. I'd love to take a look at it, if you're willing to let me. I could critique it, and who knows, maybe you could make it into something watchable. It would be a time suck but think about how awesome it would be if the script was ever used. Your characters definitely have the strength for it.
I might have some editing exercises soon... and again, writing may not be your dream, but a couple pieces published would be great.
