What Would You Like to See Here in 2010?

December 30th 2009 12:49
2009 is coming to its end, and overall, it's been a shaky year for me and for Fictional Worlds, but overall I think it's been a good year for my blog-I can't necessarily say the same thing for my case. There are going to be changes in the coming year, there are going to be new things, new thoughts, new journeys.

Take a few minutes to complete this survey and help shape the future of Fictional Worlds:

Writing Goals 2010

December 29th 2009 12:51
Last night I made up a list of writing related things that I want to get done in 2010. I'm pretty sure-but of course you can never predict what will happen for the next year-that these are all attainable goals. Some of them will be more difficult to reach than others, and most of them contribute to my 2010 WriYe goal.

Here's my list:

1. Get through one revision of Phoenix Falling and most of the way through a second one-I would like to start submitting to publishers and agents before my eighteenth birthday

2. Do a 1 Week workshop on this blog every month; of course during November I won't really be workshopping, I'll be encouraging, but close enough

3. Write 1, 000, 000 words of fiction and/or creative non-fiction

4. Write one letter to Daddy every 2 months

5. Write 350, 000 for Nano

6. Write 4 Jihad books-this is going to be the most intense one. There will be a lot of time consuming world building to get through and a lot of planning and such. It will be divided into monthly mini-goals.

7. Build a new world and start a new book/series in that world-I really need something to take my mind off of Jihad. I want to start something new!!

8. Write&edit 10 short stories-most of these will probably be myths for Tamraq, and hopefully one or two short stories that are not myths.

9. Submit one poem each month-to different ezines and magazines and such... with any luck I'll get one or two publications this year

10. Blog Regularly-I want to blog almost every day. I'm cutting back my expectations to 6 days a week, with Sundays off. Hopefully this will give me a little bit more time to work on other writing projects.

11. Double blog readership and increase reader participation-a fair number of people already read this blog, but I want to increase the number of readers. Why? Well, partially because I want more people to see my work and know my name, but mostly because I want to help more writers. And those who I can't help, I want to show a different perspective on the writing process. I also want to increase reader participation, and I think the workshops are going to be a big part of that.

12. Find a writing partner-I'm looking for someone who will read and critique my work, and who in return will send me their work for critique. I'm looking for someone who loves to write, who will kick my butt into gear, and who I can bounce ideas off of. Preferrably someone who would also like to help with the workshops, as they're going to be a lot of work.

13. Spend more time writing-I need to learn some better time management skills. I need to try out different methods of time management, I need to experiment, and I need to get more stuff done.

Over the next couple of days I will talk about how I'm going to reach my goals next year-and I'll talk about ways in which you can reach your own goals. In the meantime...

What are your writing goals for 2010?

Hectic Holidays!

December 28th 2009 12:37
Sorry that I haven't posted in a long time... I've had barely a waking moment to myself for the last week. I've done absolutely no writing, less planning, and even less of the schoolwork that I need to get done over the holidays. I may be on my Christmas break but it doesn't feel very much like a break.

I'm at the point where I'm panicing because I've only really got two days left of my break to do whatever I want with. I really need to outline some writing goals for next year, need to get my butt back in gear in both my writing and in my school work, and I need more time. I can't believe that one of two weeks of my break has already gone by

Interview with Robert J. Sawyer

December 22nd 2009 12:31
The interview with Sawyer last night went very well. He seemed to be very real and nice. I asked him if I could post the interview, and he said yes, so here it is. It's somewhat paraphrased but the most important sentiments are intact.

Me: When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I'm sure some of you have heard of Robert J. Sawyer, a Canadian Science Fiction writer. Well, Sawyer lives near me, in Mississauga, a mini-city that is just a little ways outside of Toronto. And today, I'm meeting him, and I get to interview him!

For my Careers class I have to interview someone who has a career in a field that I'm interested in, and so I'm interviewing Sawyer. I'm really excited about this, and if he gives me his permission, you guys will see the interview here tomorrow

Not Much To Say

December 18th 2009 13:03
I don't have much to say today. It's the last day of school until the new year and I'm hoping the break will allow me to get everything together. I've been stressed out and unbelievably exhausted since Nano. I'm hoping a few days of down time will change that.

I'm going to be taking the weekend off and just resting. I know posts have been scarce this December but it's been a really bad month

Thoughts About Life...

December 17th 2009 12:43
Life is a bit rough for a lot of people right now. Personally I've been having troubles sleeping, I've had a lot on my mind, and the words have not been flowing. When they do, they are slow.

Someone in my family is going through a transition. He is becoming a woman; he is a transexual. And I don't care. My best friend is gay, one of my other closest friends is trans. In fact, we're lucky in that our family is very open, very accepting

Something Short

December 15th 2009 12:23
Right now I'm still feeling a little bit burnt out creatively. I'm trying to find something that's not Jihad to work on for a while, but there's nothing else to be found.

I'm thinking about my goals for next year. I know that I want to edit Phoenix Falling, and to write Fallen and Shanni, two books that sprouted from Snapshots. I know that I'm writing 1, 000, 000 words for WriYe and I know that I'm going to be doing a variety of workshops here. But I'm in search of a new story, a new world. Something out there, something wild, something different

WriMos!

December 13th 2009 19:31
Well, there are a lot more WriMos than I've realized. In fact, I have a browser window open and full of tabs for different WriMos, so I'm going to split this up into two posts again. There are, it seems, a lot of challenges in February.

For those of you who love Nanowrimo, who love the community, the passion, all of that good stuff, there are a number of challenges that are offspring of Nanowrimo. These challenges tend to have much smaller, more close knit communities (many of the people you can find on the Nano boards come November) but they are still great people to take the challenge with

I Wrote A Novel, Now What?

December 12th 2009 17:49
This is part of my long credits post. I've decided to divide it into two to make my life easier because I'm in a bit of a rush to get out of the house and see some friends from out of town.

Nano's I Wrote A Novel, Now What? (clicky) page includes a pretty comprehensive list of year-round challenges. It's only missing two or three, which I will link to in the second half of this post

Pain

December 11th 2009 12:15
Just a short post today... the last few days my wrist has been really, really unbelievably sore, so I'm taking a day off from writing to try and recover it. Wish me well and on the weekend I will return with the long overdue credits post.

Thank you for bearing with me through the last couple of weeks; I feel bad for the scarcity of my posts, and can only hope that you find value in what you get.

After a few days of rest and relaxation-and going to my mother's house to play Final Fantasy-I'm feeling much better about everything and am ready to tackle my massive reading list of books, blog posts, and stories to critique, and I'm ready to start mapping out my writing for the next year.

First I would like to link you to a couple of great posts about writing

Exhaustion

December 5th 2009 17:44
I'm sorry to all of my loyal readers for not having posted in a couple of days. Those of you who know me in other places will know that I haven't really been on forums or much of anything. I think I'm just suffering from story exhaustion, and the struggle to get caught up on school. So for the next few days posts are likely to be short.

Right now I'm in the process of working something out with Erin, one of the lovely mods who runs WriYe (click here), something along the lines of a one month Dear Diary challenge. This would involve weekly threads and I would be posting prompts and ideas for diary posts during the month. It's either going to happen in May or June, from the looks of it

Thoughts On Nanowrimo 2009

December 2nd 2009 12:08
I have a lot more to say on this, including the big 'credits' post that I'm planning, but I just wanted to get in a few words now.

It's early morning inmy part of the world and I'm still recovering from a hectic month and a wonderful TGIO party. A lot of the people that I saw last night I won't see again until next Nanowrimo, until October or November. Some of them I might see once, twice, three times if I'm lucky, during the rest of the year. The forums begin to die and the Tonano chat dies with them, slowly but surely

The End

December 1st 2009 12:21
Nanowrimo is over. Your novel may not be over, but the month is, and with any luck you got in your 50, 001 you needed to write this month. Personally I hit 250, 049 words yesterday, having written 28K in just under twelve hours. I'm pretty proud of that. Not all of it's good, but some of it is absolutely amazing.

What now, you ask? Well, any day now the 'I Wrote a Novel, Now What' page will come up on the Nanowrimo website, and the 'Big, Scary, Fun Adventures' forum will appear if all goes as it usually does. The forums, within two weeks, will be mostly dead, with only the hardcore Nanoers, the people who really love Nano and really love writing, still posting. It becomes a lot more manageable then and I find that I spend a lot more time on the forums when it goes down to that
