Fictional Worlds - November 2007

Increasing Your Writing Productivity

November 29th 2007 17:14
So. We all have those times when we are absolute failures at productivity, and those times when we can write like a maniac. I'm going to take a look at causes, influences, and ways to increase your productivity in the next two or three posts.

First, in this post, let's look at the causes of unproductive times...

1) Stress and a lack of free time. Usually related to work or family, or both, possibly working overtime on some big project, whatever. At the end of the day, when you have time to write, all you really want to do is sleep. This isn't the best of reasons, but it's one that strikes true with a lot of authors.

2) Sickness. Usually when you're sick, you don't really want to be at the computer, typing, you want to be laying in bed with a good book. (I am the one exception to this rule; I feel like shit at the moment) I'll actually ay that this is one of the better excuses for not writing; it may compromise your health, which, in most people's eyes, is more important than writing.

3) Writer's block. Writer's block is pretty common and fairly well known to be the bane of our existence; it does a good job eliminating our word counts and novels and poems. There are ways to get around it, but with really bad writer's block usually comes depression of a sort. I mean, if you can't write now, how are you ever going to make it?

Those are the three main causes. Usually all three are caused by stress, business, and the complete inability to think straight. They all block your writing majorly. Blocks are not good for the serious writer; a block that lasted long enough could throw your career down the toilet.

I'm writing about this because I've been majorly blocked on and off the last month or two, and now I'm writing again. (Of course, I'm sick, so today has been horrendously unproductive.) I'm looking forward to when the sickness is gone and the productivity returns. Next post I'll look at ways to cure your blocks...

E...dit...ing?

November 29th 2007 04:25
So here's my wonderful update. I have done absolutely nothing. I've started on a new poetry book, as well as writing my nanowrimo and other such wonderful things. I've started what will be a very long series of books for my nanowrimo now, and I'm going to finish editing, synopsizing, and querying with Moonshadow's Guardian.

I have to do one more generic edit of that book, plus formatting. (I WISH I knew somebody who would format the thing for me, but I don't ) I'm also writing a lot lately, because of the time of month; it tends to be my most active. THe time of year, I mean.

This year my resolution is to have Moonshadow's Guardian in the hands of an agent or a publisher by November First of next year. Think I can do it? I'll post what I can... but after querying, it's confidential until I get a publisher. I'd also rather not build up hope and have it wonderfully crushed.

So my current poetry anthology in progress, Through The Pain, is currently only three poems long but I'm liking it so far. The first section will have to do with the new boyfriend; the second section with the second year anniversary of Daddy's death and the fact that it's been so long since I've seen him, that sort of thing. The third... I haven't decided.

Anyway, I'm off to do some writing. Editing Pains will start again on December First. Officially. I will actually start up again. And write that post every day. Promise.

I feel like a bad blogger....

So I leave you with a lyric:

Everything starts to look up
And I'm just afraid of falling down
Can't revel in my happiness too long
Without the fear creeping up behind me...

A Poem For You

November 23rd 2007 19:28
Into the darkness I crawl
The ocean of blackness
I dare to swim across
In my darkest dreams...

Who are you?
This figure that I see
A face in the darkness
You are to me just a memory
Of what, I cannot recall;
I see you.

I see you in my dreams,
My nightmares,
Those shadowy things
With figures of darkness
Shadows

...And I will conquer my fears
Swim the ocean
Fall from the cliff-
All to find you
Whoever
Where ever
You are...

My computer doesn't have internet yet so I'm using my boyfriend's right now. I'm going to tell you all about the current stories I'm working on.

I'm still, of course, half-working on Moonshadow, but I'm working more on Fairy tales. The book is about a fairy coming down from a colony of moonfairies to see if Earth was suitable for them to live on. I'm also working on Therapy Stories, about a depressive schizophrenic, who believes her rape-murdered sister is still alive and in an incredibly fragile, targeted state. She's also traumatized and violently bipolar. She's a drunk and a heroin/weed addict

It's been a pretty long time, huh?

November 19th 2007 04:00
Well I'm about ready to get fully into the swing of blogging. I need to find my binder with all my brainstorms in it. I promise you one post every day until Christmas break starts, at which time I should be able to start posting twice a day.

So, let me fill you in on all that has happened in my writing world. I have been writing a little here and there. I've also been doing nanowrimo like a mad woman, although I wouldn't call much of it decent fiction. I've returned to my first ever series and I'm really working on it. Starting tomorrow I'm going to get back into editing Moonshadow-and I think this will be the last edit
